After a lot of conversations with Lisa and a few different idea changes, I have decided to build a blog site to house 4-5 different posts telling the true stories behind “based on a true story” sports films. After writing my thesis paper last semester on A League of Their Own (1992), I realized how many of these kinds of stories, particularly with sports films, have a lot of “creative differences” from the actual historical events. I’d really like to write more about the true histories of these athletes, teams, and achievements without the Hollywood romanticism that is typically applied to make the stories more palatable for audiences. My classmates all gave positive feedback and film recommendations, so I am really looking forward to this project!
