At this point in my project I’m still very much in the planning stage of things. Thus far I’ve created an instagram account for Sound Waves, made a call-for-contributors Instagram post with some frequently asked questions about the mag, created a google form for contributors to drop their finished work into, and made a site for the mag. Right now I’m kind of playing a waiting game in terms of having any content to post, as submissions for the first issue of the mag aren’t due until March 4th. In the meantime, I’m planning on doing some much needed design work and organization to the site, creating physical flyers to post around campus, as well as digital signage for the Chat TVs, and posting my first weekly album review. These reviews will be posted every Tuesday and feature a different album that is in my rotation at the time. The first one, debuting 2/20, will be Songs in Red and Grey by Suzanne Vega. Thus far I’m not running into any problems, however I am hoping that I’ll be able to create a “best of” print edition once both issues of the mag are posted on the site, sometime in late March or early April, if time allows. Overall, I’m pretty happy with the way things are working out so far. At first I felt a little weird doing a music-based project and not utilizing the radio or anything, but my passion really is more on the editorial side of things, so running an online magazine just kind of felt like the right thing for me to do.
