Anna Hilbert
Anna Hilbert is a senior Media and Communications major with a concentration in Screen Media. During their freshman year, Anna studied at University of Stirling as part of Arcadia’s FYSAE program in Scotland. While abroad, Anna traveled to iconic film locations like the Cafe des 2 Moulins in the film Amélie (2001) and Prince’s Street in Scotland’s Trainspotting (1996), just to replicate some of their favorite shots on their iPhone.
Anna views film and television as a way to gaze back at yourself through your own on-screen identification. This interest led to their thesis paper Mass Media and Self-Simulacrum inspired by the works of Jean Baudrillard and Laura Mulvey. Anna continues their exploration of audience, gaze and multimedia consumption in their short film Voyeur (2022).
Voyeur (2022), Anna Hilbert
Voyeur follows the creative process of fanfiction writer MissLonelyhearts aka Sybil, a landlord who’s real life muse for her original novel are the next-door neighbors that she’s spying on with hidden surveillance. Inspired by Hitchcock’s Rear Window (1954), Gilroy’s Nightcrawler (2014) and Anna’s research on gaze theory and screen media studies, this short explores the powerful gaze of a romance writer and the lengths she will go to get published.
