The Void is a book written by Sophia Birks about a girl trapped alone in a black hole in the middle of space. It is an exploration of mental illness, isolation and trauma that pushes the boundaries of fiction storytelling. Through the warping of time and space, the main character Katie Cain finds self reconciliation, deep introspection and a cat named Possum, all the while desperately trying not to slip into the hollow fold of insanity. Based on an interview with theoretical physicist Kip Thorne, The Void is a mind bending break from reality and a love letter to complicated female characters.
