The Long Shift website has become the space where I can post my unfiltered opinions on my favorite sports team, the Flyers. I think it is coming along very nicely so far. As of writing this, the first two posts have gone live and I am very happy with the way they turned out. This project is making me fall in love with the Flyers and with hockey all over again. So far I am accruing different article ideas and fleshing them out so inevitably some of them won’t see the light of day simply because there’s really just not enough to write about. So far my process has been picking the article idea that fits what I’m feeling that day and then I just start writing. Because of the amount of time I spend around hockey and hockey content, so far I haven’t had any writer’s block. Actually, the only problem I’ve had so far is worrying if I’m writing too much. The most interesting part of this project so far is how much more I have learned when it comes to fleshing out ideas. For example in my first article, I compared the advanced stats of Jakob Pelletier and Matvei Michkov, one of which is a hugely hyped-up player and the other is a player who needed a change of scenery to get his career back on track and they both have virtually the same scoring efficiencies this season. While there are many different reasons for this, I thought it was super interesting. I am very excited to continue working on this project.
