I am pleased with the progress I have made so far in regards to the completion of this project. As I mentioned in my last blog, I have done great research on the history of North Philadelphia, and I have continued onto this with additional photographs revolving around the area. Not only have I physically gone down to North Philadelphia and made my own actual observations, but also I looked up specific things that were written in North Philadelphia during the early stages of gentrification. One of my more favorite images that I have found is an early newspaper cover written decades ago that addressed the city and called for a stop for the gentrifying of houses. This statement, picture, and article was created by several African American writers who felt that it was absolutely necessary to have their voices be heard. With this, I have begun to create a mini collage showcasing different images that span across the years and decades in Philadelphia. It is in a way a timeline of sorts, as it takes a look at the state of the city previously along with how it seems to be in today’s world. Obviously, I plan on continuing to do more research and add to what I already have, however I feel that I am currently on a pretty good pace and track. I just have to keep doing what I have been so far and see what other elements can go along with this, which I am definitely excited about.
