So far, progress has been limited. I have been pretty busy with other classes and work, so I spent a lot of my time trying to expand upon my original idea. I think instead of making a poetry tribute book to bell hooks, I am just simply making a tribute book. I should honestly refer to the entire project as a book, in general.
I spent some time in my internship working on an art book for Studio 190, so I know how to start and finish this process. Right now, I am in the planning stages and I am trying to assemble a layout for the entire book and find participants. I will see how many models I need for the photographs I want included in the book, as well as any volunteering poets or writers who would be interested. I don’t know if I want to go in the direction of a narrative or an open ended theme as Alan suggested.
I think of the format of a cookbook, which is strange but it may work. I like that in a cookbook there are different sections and that is what I am thinking for now. The book will be about being a woman and doing the looking in a space that is occupied. I want as many women as possible to be a part of this book and serve as models for my artistic concepts relating back to photography and I want it to mainly follow this theme. Maybe one section can be self portraits with hooks’s quotes. I am still figuring this all out and I hope to start this week. The concept of looking will be my main focus.
