Only 39 days until Arcadia students, dubstep fans, and the castle ghosts turn the ballroom into a dancefloor at the Riddim Royalty Charity Event on April 11th. The event has progressed a shocking amount in the last month and I’m genuinely questioning how I am doing this (in the best way possible).
February was packed with email chains, zoom meetings, new connections, and a lot of learning experience. I’ve built a team of people to help bring this event to life, and each person has certain responsibilities that are helping shape the event’s success. The Foundation Presents assisted with curating the lineup, the production is sponsored by Vizawave, the LowDown is hosting a harm reduction booth with free goodies for attendees, and so many others are offering to support the event in one way or another. My thesis presentation will draw on the history of raving to demonstrate how modern rave culture has maintained the ethos of the original rave community, which viewed the dancefloor as a sacred space to find power in the everyday, whether that be through music, movement, activism, or connection.
Switchwave is working on the flier, MattGMedia is coming to shoot a promo video of the castle next week, almost all the artist agreements are received and the Cradles to Crayons has been confirmed as the charity. The plan is to announce the event in the next two weeks and the clock is ticking!
