My senior project is going alright, currently, I’m in the beginning stages of creating a magazine issue. Coming up with the idea was easy enough, personally when it came to senior project ideas, I gravitated towards either a publication or a short film since the very beginning. Though, I wasn’t entirely sure what I wanted to tackle. I knew no matter what, I wanted my project to have meaning and be a projection of myself in some way.

Considering the political climate of the world, I felt a calling to use my publication to showcase all the perspectives that are being diminished in the media. So, the idea of a political advocacy magazine came to be.

Coming up with the name was the hardest part. I wanted it to be catchy, fun, and a bit silly. Especially because I’m fun and a bit silly. As much as I wanted this magazine to tackle serious, real, raw issues, I wanted it to also be whimsical. Rainbows, Rebels and Ruckus was a name that I felt encapsulated everything I wanted to accomplish with my magazine. Rainbows, to signify the queer topics I hope to tackle. Rebels, in reference to the protest my magazine exemplifies, especially in protest to all the anti-lgbtq and anti-DEI legislature. Ruckus, to showcase the loud, raw, and pride that it is to be different. Showcasing that we will not back down, and will cause such a stink we can’t be ignored.

No matter what, I just hope the people who contribute to my magazine will know they have a safe space to exist, and that other people are fighting for their right to do so.
